Endeca Information Discovery for Oracle BI/Data Warehouse Developers

Mark Rittman

BI & Big Data

10-July-2013

14:00

Session abstract:
Oracle Endeca Information Discovery is a new Oracle Fusion Middleware product that helps you analyze unstructured, semistructured, and structured data sets from disparate datasources with little up-front data modeling. This session, for Oracle BI/data warehouse developers, develops an Oracle Endeca Information Discovery application from data sourced in Oracle Endeca Information Discovery’s Integrator feature to dashboards and shows how disparate jagged datasources are loaded and integrated in Oracle Endeca Server.
With this data, the session involves building a hybrid search/analysis application with Oracle Endeca Information Discovery’s Studio feature and shows how such applications complement and extend the traditional relational and OLAP-based Oracle Business Intelligence dashboards, based on the recent 3.0 release of Endeca Information Discovery.

Building the Integrated Data Warehouse with Oracle Database and Hadoop

Gwen Shapira

BI & Big Data

10-July-2013

15:00

Session abstract: From tracking customers in online stores to tweets and blog posts. Un-structured data is rapidly growing and businesses are looking for ways to analyze it. In this presentation, I will explain why storing and processing unstructured data is a challenge best answered by specialized systems such as Hadoop. I will dive into the internals of Hadoop and Oracle Big Data Appliance and explain how they solve scalability concerns. We will discuss technical details of how to integrate Hadoop with existing DWH systems on Oracle and how to build ETL pipelines with Hadoop, using both open source tools and Oracle’s Big Data connectors to allow using the data in existing BI tools and reports.

OBIEE 11g in the Enterprise (Security, High-Availability etc)

Mark Rittman

BI & Big Data

10-July-2013

16:15

Session abstract:
OBIEE 11g is designed for enterprise deployments but integrating it with existing application server, security, backup & recovery and systems management environments can be a challenge. In this presentation based on several large-scale deployments of OBIEE Rittman Mead have carried out, we look at how to deploy OBIEE in a scaleable, HA manner and integrate it with existing WebLogic and IBM Websphere application server farms. We look at how OBIEE can be integrated with your existing security, SSL and SSO setups, and how OBIEE can be managed and controlled using Enterprise Manager in the same way as your other Oracle Fusion Middleware products. Finally, we will look at how monitoring tools can be linked into OBIEE’s diagnostic tools, and how OBIEE systems can be backed-up, cloned and restored using standards-based tools and techniques.

What are we Still Doing Wrong?

Tom Kyte

Keynote Session

11-July-2013

09:00

Session abstract: I’ve given many best practices presentations in the last 10 years. I’ve given many worst practices presentations in the last 10 years. I’ve seen some things change over the last ten years and many other things stay exactly the same. In this talk – we’ll be taking a look at the good and the bad – what we do right and what we continue to do wrong over and over again. We’ll look at why “Why” is probably the right initial answer to most any question. We’ll look at how we get to “Know what we Know”, and why that can be both a help and a hindrance.  We’ll peek at ‘Best Practices’ and tie them into what I term ‘Worst Practices’. In short, a talk on the good and the bad.

OBIEE, Exalytics & Hadoop Integration

Mark Rittman

BI & Big Data

11-July-2013

11:15

Session abstract:
Oracle Exalytics is Oracle’s hardware/software platform for “speed of thought” analysis. This presentation looks initially at the architecture and capabilities of Oracle Exalytics and then goes through the development of an Oracle Exalytics application sourcing data from structured relational and OLAP sources, and then from "big data" sources via the new Hadoop connector. Aimed at developers looking to leverage this new in-memory platform with connectivity to Hadoop, the session provides an end-to-end guide to developing fast, interactive, and highly visual applications that leverage the in-memory store to make interactive big-data analysis faster.

NoSQL Deep Dive

Gwen Shapira

BI & Big Data

11-July-2013

12:15

Session abstract: NoSQL is a general name for a new type of database – One that throws away the relational model in favor of simplicity and scalability. This presentation aims to give you everything you need to know before adopting a NoSQL solution for your business. We'll review the concepts behind NoSQL databases, which problems it was designed to solve, when does it make sense to use it and how to do so safely and effectively. We will focus on Oracle's NoSQL database and will discuss the algorithms and design patterns it uses to provide high availability and scalability.

Mark Rittman

BI & Big Data

11-July-2013

14:15

Session abstract:
The 11.1.1.7 release of Oracle BI EE incorporates Essbase into the product install, and provides a combined OBIEE/Essbase platform for high-performance BI and Analysis, optionally hosted on the Exalytics platform. In this session we'll look at this combined architecture, see what role Essbase plays within it and
whether Shared Services is still needed, see how Workspace integration with OBIEE is now restored, and see how SmartView provides MS Office integration across both tools.
